How to tell if your website is out of date
Eight practical checks you can do in a few minutes to find out if your website needs attention.
Open it on your phone
Is the text readable without zooming? Do the buttons work with a thumb? Many customers will only ever see the phone version.
Read it as a customer
Are your hours, services, prices, staff and service areas still right? Wrong details cost you trust and enquiries.
Check the dates
An old copyright year or a blog that stopped years ago can make a business look closed. Remove or update anything that signals neglect.
Test every form and phone link
Send yourself a test message and tap your phone number. Broken forms lose enquiries silently, and nobody tells you.
Look for the padlock
Your browser should show a secure connection. If it warns visitors that the site is not secure, many will leave.
Time it
Open your site on mobile data. If you find yourself waiting, your customers are too.
Ask who has the keys
Do you know who controls your domain, hosting and logins? Renewals missed by someone you cannot reach can take your site offline.
Ask when it was last backed up and updated
If nobody can answer, that is the finding. Out of date software and missing backups turn small problems into long outages.
